#8 Electric Kingdom
By far the most spectacular light i`ve photographed. I looked at the forecast and the signs were there... Extremely warm temperatures and a potential thunderstorm approaching. This could be hit or miss. I risked standing there on the mountain being soaked by nothing but rain. But there was potential... I got ready for the long hike up to a mountainridge facing north. I wanted a clear unobstructed view towards the midnightsun. When i started the hike it was almost 30 degrees celsius and the sun was making it tiring to climb, even though it was getting late in the evening. When i was getting closer to the ridge i could feel the first raindrops on my skin. And sure enough...pretty soon i could hear the first sounds of thunder. Now, i was getting pumped. I almost ran up on the ridge even though its normally not recommended standing like this, totally exposed on one of the highest points in the area while lightning strikes rippes up the sky. I went into crazymode and found my compositions. Crazymode means taking chances...this time i climbed out on a slippery shelf with nothing but a lake below me...some hundred meters below me... So there i was..soaking wet firing away exposures hoping to catch the lightningstrikes while at the same time battling the raindrops screwing up my filters. 50 exposures was made of this scene. 1 had a lightningstrike in it... To the west the midnightsun was shining warm and Bright and giving a distinct warm sidelight...to the east there was a pitch black sky full of thunder and lightning. I dont expect seeing this again anytime soon. Im glad i got to see this show from the best seat in the house. If you want to go into crazymode together with me, you have the chance experience the amazing arctic Norway.
