Gothic Peak

This area near Crested Butte had the most varied and intense color Zack Schnepf and I saw in Colorado this year. We were also compelled by the amazing composition the landscape presented us with here. We were remiss on scouting this hike the day before, but we decided to wing it before sunrise anyway. Needless to say, after an hour in the dark we lost the trail and ended up scrambling up a steep slope try to reach a vantage point before it was too late. At over 10,000 feet of elevation we produced a comical chorus of grunts, curses and wheezes as we clawed our way up and gasped for breath.
