Cholatse

I decided to finish processing this image this week without even realizing that I took the shot exactly one year ago today. It's hard to believe so much time has already passed. We spent our last Thanksgiving in Kathmandu, just having finished our trek. This year I'm looking forward to something a bit slower, spending the holiday with some family and enjoying a more traditional feast in a cabin in the mountains. Anyway, pictured here is Cholatse 21,129' (6,440 m) as seen from the village of Dzongla in the Everest Region of Nepal. I hadn't really planned on shooting in Dzongla, but this particular composition caught my eye the moment we crossed the stream earlier that day. Despite my plans to rest up that evening for the long and challenging day ahead, I returned to this spot to snap a few frames before dark. This image has gone through a number of iterations, and it's taken me forever to get it to the point where I'm remotely happy with it. It would have been great to stick around Dzongla for another day and shoot under more ideal morning light, but guess when you see a comp you like you gotta shoot it when you can. Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving, everyone! via MasonCummings http://500px.com/photo/90974929
