Ancient Pathway

The night I returned to Flagstaff from my second long rafting trip through the Grand Canyon this winter, I had a relaxing night in town and found myself back out here on the rim of the Canyon, gawking at the view from the head of the Eminence Fault trail the next day. Here is the view. After watching the canyon fill with light from this vantage I spent the morning preparing to descend the technical slot canyons of Tatahatso Wash. An adventure that requires rappelling through many sections, often into cold deep pools. After making my way to the Colorado I would then inflate my packraft and float the beautiful stretch of Marble Canyon above this point. The fault line at Eminence Break marks an ancient Anasazi cross-canyon route to the North Rim by way of a footbridge, the remains of which you can see from the river, spanning impossible heights across a chimney in the Redwall. After backpacking out with my boat, climbing and camera gear and everything else that comes with a 6 day multi sport adventure, I gained a real respect for those who lived in these canyons and saw fit to call this a pathway. And I went up the easy side of this ancient route. via forreststanley http://500px.com/photo/101516485
