Iceland Eclipse

This was the reason I travelled to Iceland and wraps up yet another amazing trip to this beautiful country! One of the best aurora displays of recent times and a 98% solar eclipse in less than a week.. That's pretty special! I had done plenty of research of locations to shoot the eclipse with many plan B's in the event of bad weather. Before I left for Iceland, the weather forecast was overcast for the whole country so I was slightly worried I wouldn't get a chance to see it. As the week progressed, the weather got better and better until the day of the eclipse where blue skies were in every direction! By the afternoon it was overcast, windy and rainy so I was so lucky to have such a glorious morning! I was up at 5am and all ready to go to my 1st choice destination - Thjofafoss and Mt Burfell. However, my sat nav thought otherwise and completely packed up on me! A schoolboy error of not having a map meant I was stuck looking for a new spot and would have to find it by just driving around like a lunatic. I wasn't too worried about not seeing it as Iceland is so flat with only volcanoes/mountains protruding out to the sky. It was fast approaching 8.30am so I drove as fast as I could towards the Eyjafjallajokull/Myrdalsjokull icecaps (as pictured) and pulled over by a field to get a clear view. I always intended to have 1 final image capturing the 2 hour sequence. As I've never photographed an eclipse before, I had to think on my feet. This is an 8 shot panoramic so again, nice and big file! Definitely not an easy event to photograph! So happy lady luck was with me on this trip! Definitely a week I won't be forgetting anytime soon... Thanks for all the support again everyone, hugely appreciated! via EdNorton http://500px.com/photo/102513557
