Silbury Hill: My next stop, half a mile from Avebury Stone Circle. It's still a mystery as to what it was used for, possibly some type of ritual or sacrifice. With that in mind I decided to keep my clothes on this time, firstly for modesties sake and secondly I didn't wish to unwittingly become a sacrifice for some warlock who may have been lurking there in the Rapeseed/Canola :-) What they are reasonably sure of is that it was built 4,750 years ago and that it took 18 million man-hours, or 500 men working for 15 years to construct. Intriguing....For what purpose? Who commissioned it or had the power and authority to do so?
