Rituals
Silbury Hill: My next stop, half a mile from Avebury Stone Circle. It's still a mystery as to what it was used for, possibly some type of ritual or sacrifice. With that in mind I decided to keep my clothes on this time, firstly for modesties sake and secondly I didn't wish to unwittingly become a sacrifice for some warlock who may have been lurking there in the Rapeseed/Canola :-) What they are reasonably sure of is that it was built 4,750 years ago and that it took 18 million man-hours, or 500 men working for 15 years to construct. Intriguing....For what purpose? Who commissioned it or had the power and authority to do so? It's 98 feet high, which would indicate that you could see and be seen by Stonehenge and Avebury. via johnfharper http://500px.com/photo/105538323
